Hi everybody! Last week I celebrated Samuel’s baptism and his 1st bday all in one. Killed 2 birds with one stone due to the fact my dad flew in from Dominican Republic and my brother/Godfather came from California. Before I begin I want to say a HUGE thank-you to everybody that helped especially my friend Lucy who decorated.
Baptism ceremony was scheduled for 12p and we had to be at St. Juan Bosco Church by 11:45am the latest. I actually thought we were going to have a full church service for the hour but nope. It was only 3 kids getting baptized (Sammy included) and it took approximately 30 minutes.
I choose my brother, Donato, and my best friend Nicol to be Sammy’s Godparents. My brother is my only sibling so who better else to watch over my Sammy and give him his own personal lessons in life. My best friend? She’s that tell it to your face, nonjudgemental person that sees life in different colors. Sammy will be taken care of.
After the baptism it was time to head straight to Tropical Park and get the Minion theme party started! As you can see my friend Lucy out did herself:
My mom cooked the pork and rice with black beans and Lucy took care of the appetizers. Nicol did the salad and took care of the cake, Dominican cake with pineapple flavor in the top cake and Dulce De Leche/Caramel in the bottom. The cake was good! Lucy created the Fruit cross and cupcakes with crosses to represent the baptism.
The men in the family sat down to play dominoes and of course the older ladies sat down to gossip. I was with my co-worker Karen and Nicol chit-chatting and eating away lol. The kids were enjoying the bounce house and eating the lollipops off the center pieces.
My Sammy had a great time. I am going to finish this blog as I finished his 1st bday letter: My dear sweet Sammy you are blessed. You are kind. You are smart. You are calm. But most importantly you are loved
Imagine yourself relaxing on a pool chair looking at the palm trees and surrounding buildings while drinking a Red Wine Sangria. That was my moment a few weeks ago while staying at the beautiful Acqualina Resort and Spa in Sunny Isles, Fl. Approximately 30 minutes north of Miami Beach. Due to my job perks I had the pleasure of staying there for the weekend of September 23rd and it was also as a birthday treat for the boyfriend. Due to the fact we mostly lounged this review will be different from my usual reviews. Notice: These views are MY OWN! Not endorsed to write this review.
The architecture is what grabs your attention. Beautiful on the outside and the inside with top notch service. The line up of Bentleys and Roll Royce in the Valet Station is a great opportunity for a mini photo session lol. The Front Desk is the first thing you see upon entering.
We had a Coastal view King room. The view in the morning was great and at night time it was magical.
The room was great especially because you could turn the sofa into a sofa bed and close the doors for complete privacy.
This is the first time I was able to enjoy the tub for some bubble bath me time. It was def well worth it!
My stay at the Acqualina mostly consisted of relaxation, finishing school work, and enjoying pool time with Samuel. We didn’t go out to enjoy the town or explore more of Acqualina. Due to my job I am usually at the Acqualina every month or so due to work functions so I know the property pretty well but it was great to enjoy the hotel as a guest with my Sammy. If you are looking for a place to stay for the weekend definitely check out the Acqualina, it won’t disappoint. 🙂 .
Today it has been a year that my handsome blessed son Samuel came into this world. A year full of laughter, blessings and unconditional love.
A year ago today at 9:10am my son came into this world. My OBGYN screamed, “He’s here!” Me: I don’t hear any crying. A second later the sound of a crying baby filled the room along with my mom screaming, “I am a Grandma!”
Those that know me and have followed some of my entry know I am a single mother. Samuel’s dad walked out when I was 8 weeks pregnant. I decided to keep my pregnancy and welcome my child with open arms.
To my beautiful child on your 1st year in this crazy world 🙂 :
I love you. I am very blessed to be your mother. I don’t believe there are words to describe the love that I feel for you. The moment that I found out I was pregnant on March 13 I automatically took the news with tears and an, “Oh. My. God. How do I tell this to my parents!?” to “If Christine Coppa was able to get through this then so can I!” So I grabbed my prenatal chewable pills and the rest is history. I enjoyed your crazy kicks when I was ready to sleep, hearing your heartbeat, seeing you, and preparing for your birth but my best greatest moment was holding you in my arms for the first time. You came in crying and the moment the nurse placed you in my arms you stopped crying and latched on quickly and well that the nurse gave you an A+ lol. I couldn’t believe I was officially a mommy, your mommy none the less. We’ve had a year full of adventures. You’ve been already on like 10 road trips (where you’ve behaved GREAT!) and stayed at 4-5 star hotels (love my job perks). At each adventure you’ve taken it with stride. You use the car ride to take your naps and the moment we arrive into our home for the weekend you are wide awake and watching your surroundings. You my little traveler are ready to take on this world 🙂 . On this new year I want you to continue discovering. Don’t worry about the moments you fall, get back up with that smile of yours and continue about your way. Don’t be scared. Keep holding on to my hand that there will come a time when you no longer will need to hold on to me but until then I will hug you a little bit longer, enjoy your wet kisses, and hold you as you take your first steps. You my Samuel are blessed. You are smart. You are kind. You are calm. But most importantly you are loved. I love you Sammy!! Happy 1st Birthday my Prince.
Hello! Last weekend, well two weekends ago now, Samuel and I traveled with my friend Lucy and her cousin Cynthia to the beautiful Casa Marina a Waldorf Astoria property in Key West. Some history about the property-Henry Flagler (the railroad pioneer) decided to construct this lavish property for his VIP guest on their way down on his train. Sadly, Flagler passed away before the construction was finished. His friends continued and finished the construction and built a lovely property.
Due to the fact I had to work and in between of getting myself and Sammy ready we departed to Key West around 8:30pm. From Miami to Key West is approximately a 3-4 hour drive depending on traffic. Once we passed Homestead, Fl. it was a dark ride from there especially once we hit the iconic Seven Mile Bridge. Thankfully Sammy has been taking road trips since he was 6 months old so he is a pro and it helps that he sleeps the majority of the ride too. Cynthia entertained him as well and went it came to his milk I like to buy the already prepared Enfamil Infant as it makes it easier to transfer to his bottles.
On our drive we spent it talking about girl stuff-our relationships, Sammy’s non-existent father, oh my God its 11pm how far away are we, we are HUNGRY!??! LOL
We finally arrived at 12:30am. After check-in process and getting our stuff together (thanx to the bell man that helped us with ALL of our luggages) we went to Duval Street like room service had ended. We found one restaurant- on Duval Street, Jack Flats-that was closing their kitchen at 1AM, we arrived at 12:55am. Cynthia and I ordered the first things we saw-pop corn shrimp, grouper sandwich, and fish tacos. I received a bunch of pop shrimp but after a while I was done. It was alright and their Margarita and Mojito wasn’t up to part, money wasted-my views!
Once we finished our very late dinner we went back to our hotel to sleep the rest of the evening.
The next day we woke up around 10am. We all got ready to head down for breakfast and the pool. Just in case I put baby sunscreen on Sammy before heading out and once we are at the pool as well. I always check out the hotel restaurant menus before heading out so I was already craving this Lobster Huevo Ranchero I saw. Regardless of the price it was well worth it! Oh with a side of ham.
After we all spent the afternoon at the pool. Case Marina also has an adult’s only pool across from the family pool. At the family pool they have a beach ball and tubes for the kids available. The water was just right, not too cold or too warm. After about an hour Sammy got hungry so we went to relax on the lounge chair while he drank his milk I drank my 1st Pina Colada with dark rum-awesome! I was going to order one before we left but in between of reading my magazine while Sammy napped and getting soaked with a thunderstorm that passed by I totally forgot. Instead we went walking to the pier for that Lucy and Cynthia could go into the beach.
We went upstairs around 2-3pm and Sammy knocked out again and so did I. We woke up close to 6pm to discover that Lucy and Cynthia went downstairs to read while laying on the hammocks. Let me tell you I was dying to lay in those hammocks for at least 5 minutes and I never got to 🙁 , hopefully on the next trip. Sammy and I woke up close to 6pm and we started getting ready for dinner. Lucy and Cynthia came in while we were taking a shower. We were all ready and getting into the car at 8pm to go have dinner at Alonzo’s. Lucy and I did a weekend trip in April of 2010 and we ended up having lunch here due to a recommendation from a sales agent at the Coach store. We ended up arriving during their happy hour and their food was delicious!! At that time Lucy and I ordered mad food and like 2 pitchers of Blue Moon and all we paid was like $50. That evening we ordered Crab Salad, Crab Cakes, Coconut Fried Grouper with a side of scallops, and Calamari for appetizers. Everything was great! If you are ever in Key West definitely make a lunch or dinner stop at Alonzo’s.
We decided to stroll around on Duval Street but it started raining cats and dogs again so we headed back to the hotel, by 11pm we were knocked out. The next day it was check-out day 🙁 . We enjoyed the pool and had breakfast before heading out to Duval Street to walk and then Miami. We headed to Duval Street at 12:30pm but unfortunately it started raining again so we ended up buying the famous Key Lime pies and heading to Miami close to 2pm. We made it to Homestead by 5pm. Once you made it to Homestead you know you are back on Florida and no more islands. We made a stop at the famous Robert is Here to grab some fruits. A stop at Robert is Here is a must for tourist and non-tourists. First of all they have the best milkshakes, I always get their Coconut but I’ve tried their strawberry banana and passion fruit. Every time I go I always return with fruits and vegetables as they are homegrown and his prices aren’t expensive. This time I bought green and red peppers, limes, and mangoes that were huge and delicious.
This was a much needed girls trip plus my Sammy 🙂 . I’ve visited Key West plenty of times but mostly on day trips, I was very fortunate to have the opportunity to stay at the Casa Marina. I hope to return soon and enjoy a hammock as the sun is setting.
I apologize for the delay on this review of the Casa Marina and Key West but as previously mentioned it’s been a crazy busy week/time.
Have a great week my loves and thank-you for reading!
Happy Sunday evening everybody! Hopefully you’ve had a relaxing Sunday with the rain Dade and Broward County have been receiving thanx to Erika. I have been recovering from a cold that I don’t know how I grabbed yesterday. Thankfully some orange juice, Advil, and Panera Bread’s chicken soup has me feeling a lot better.
Yesterday was our August meet up for South Florida Bloggers at Books and Books located in Coral Gables. Sad to say I’ve lived in Miami all my life and first time I’ve been there. For this meet up I decided to bring my friend Lucy and Sammy along.
For the most part Sammy behaved but at times he would do his whining and screams that I would step into another room until he calmed down. His milk and Gerber Puffs were able to keep him somewhat entertained lol.
We arrived minutes late right as Jared from Podcast was giving his speech. To be honest to each their own but I hate hearing my voice so I doubt I’ll get into the Podcast world. But in this industry and in any industry really you can’t say, “Never going to drink from that water!” so for now God bless to each and every one of you Podcasters but tonight and for now I will stick to writing my blog.
To me the most interesting session was by Christopher from Corey Consulting. He spoke about what his company looks at to hire us bloggers to either write or place their advertisement on our website. Hopefully in the near future I get a proposition to work for him 🙂 .
Aside from Christopher’s speech I am very glad I got to meet two Travel Bloggers, yay! I met Jessica from She Dreams of Travel and Anquanette from Cruzan Foodie. In those 5 minutes that we were speaking I gained some valuable information to help me gain knowledge about travel blogging. Thank-you ladies, we should get together soon!
To end our day we went to have lunch at My Ceviche due to the fact Paola from Coral Gables Love is always writing about them 🙂 . I’m about to ask the owners to open one up here in Broward. Yes ladies and gents they are good!! I was thinking about heading over this weekend but then I remembered I will be in Orlando for the last showing of Frozen! I ordered a Ceviche bowl with Coconut Jasmine rice, shrimp, cilantro, onion, pico de gallo, lime juice, sweet potatoes, and corn with a side of guacamole. Delicious!
My friend Lucy had a soft taco with octopus with a side of guacamole. Yes we love our avocados 🙂 .
This was our Saturday loves! Hope you had a great weekend and heres to having a great week! Any plans for Labor Day weekend?
July and August; have to love them for being Miami Spa Months. Great spas here in Miami offer their great services for $99USD plus tax and gratuities. You can select a variety depending on your location or if you have a favorite or would like to try a place for the first time.
I am a fan of the Mandarin Oriental located in Brickell. It’s where Jennifer Aniston stayed while filming Marley and Me. Bad Boys II was filmed there. I was there for one night with my mom and I saw a famous Mexican singer. It is one of the places here in Miami to see famous people. Not to mention they are rated as one of the top Spa Hotels in Florida.
My appointment was set for 5p but I arrived 2 hours early hoping to be able to fit a pedicure before, unfortunately it was not available until after my appointment so I decided to relax in their relaxation room which has snacks and flavored water.
I had a Tranquil Delight massage given by Carla. I definitely had some tight muscles that at times it was painful but in the end I was feeling refreshed. I loved the body scrub the most! I realized my massage ended when I finished washing the salt and oil off that Carla said, “I will take you back to the relaxation room.” 🙁 I wish I could have extended the time. I relaxed in the relaxation again until Feli came and picked me up for my pedicure. She did a great job and yes I love pink 🙂 .
I had a great time at the Mandarin Oriental. I would also love to thank Jenine for charging my iPhone when it died on me. That is what I consider great customer service. Exceptional service from beginning to end was what I received the moment I entered. I’ve been to their property before as a guest and with my job but I was never able to take advantage of their Spa services until now and I will be back next year 🙂 . If you haven’t taken advantage of Miami Spa please do, it ends on the 31st!!
In honor of Four Seasons Orlando 1st Year Anniversary I’ve decided to write my over due blog in regards to my stay for my 29th birthday weekend which was like a month ago. Its been a month and I am still wishing EVERYDAY to be back on their lazy river with my Sammy or watching Magic Kingdoms fireworks from my balcony. This was a birthday gift to myself especially because I fell in love with the property the moment I found out it was in the Disney grounds, they have a water park, and if your kids are old enough they will appreciate that, the game room, their basketball court, and last but not least breakfast with Goofy and Pals Sunday morning before departure. If you can it is definitely a vacation worth while, even for couples. The Four Seasons has an adult only pool (I was tempted to have the boyfriend stay with Sammy while I enjoyed it all to myself). Personally its an oasis all on its own. Future engaged couple looking for a location to get married? Take a look at the Four Seasons Orlando, you won’t be disappointed.
Four Seasons Orlando is situated in Orlando’s luxury Golden Oak community. The land was bought in 2000 from Disney World and construction began 10 years later. Driving up I was in love as I previously mentioned in one of my post. There is only Valet Parking at $36USD per night and I felt so out of place in yoga pants, sweatshirt, and my hair up in a bun. As soon as we checked in and went up to our rooms I quickly changed into jeans and a blouse for dinner. Besides driving to the Four Seasons might I add the chandeliers in the entrance leaves you speechless as well. It is magnificent! Every morning fresh flowers are placed by the entry as well as two varieties of water. By the time I paid attention to them on our last day they had Passion Mint and Blueberry Acai.
We had dinner at The Lobby Bar. That experience I already documented in the previous post, cliff notes version: Their wings and fries are awesome! The next day we went to have breakfast at Ravello (this is where the Goofy and Pals breakfast is held) and we had the ordinary-pancakes, scrambled eggs, bacon, and orange juice. All delish! Then we headed to the Splash Zone which is perfect for wee little ones and older kids as well as you can run through the water zones. There are tipis and these wonderful I don’t know what they are called beds? lounges? Oh well! But I do know it was perfect for Sammy to take his afternoon nap as we were covered all around. We were able to relax in the kids pool as he was in our constant view. There is a Family Pool as well but due to Sammy’s age I was advised that was the best place for us and it definitely was. Once Sammy woke from his nap we went to try out the Lazy River. Have I mentioned how much I miss this Lazy River? Well I’ll mention it again, I miss this Lazy River!! lol. Tubes for little kids, in between, and for adults are provided. Sammy was chilling in his as I was struggling to a-not losing my glasses and b-staying on top. We did 3 full circles with Sammy chilling throughout. He was definitely very comfy! I had scheduled rides at Magic Kingdom that night so we went and started getting. Transportation to the Disney parks is provided by the Four Seasons.
We had a nice magical day at Magic Kingdom. I found it to be empty for being a Saturday evening in the summer. Dumbo had a five minute wait when its usually an hour or more. We decided to leave once the parade started as Sammy started getting cranky. Once we arrived we ordered room service from The Lounge Bar and saw the ending of the fireworks from our balcony. I love fireworks so I was happy to sit in my balcony with Sammy watching the fireworks as he drank his night time milk and I waited on room service to arrive. Loved it!
Sadly it came time to say good-bye to the Four Seasons. We had breakfast at The Lounge Bar due to the fact Ravello was strictly for those who paid for Goofy and Pals Breakfast. If Sammy was older that he was going to remember it I might have done it but I decided against it. The price is $42USD per adult and $22USD for children ages 3-12 years old. I did get to say hi to Minnie and Goofy though 🙂 . The room was packed with children. If your little one is a fan its a must. They do spend a great number of time with you.
We said our good-byes and I told myself when I financially can again I will return! I’m actually trying to see if I can do a night at least for my godsons birthday in November.
All in all my highlights for my birthday weekend was The Four Seasons and Frozen at Hollywood Studios. The Four Seasons has an incredible property with an incredible staff in Orlando. On your next vacation to Orlando/Disney check them out, I promise you won’t be disappointed!
Four Seasons congratulations on your 1st year anniversary! Thank-you for taking care of your guest from beginning to end!
*Views are all mine! Four Seasons had no idea they had a blogger staying with them.*
Hello my loves! I know its late but wanted to share what my afternoon consisted of. I found an interesting event on Eventbrite called South Florida Bloggers, I did not even know there was such a thing here! They were having an event at Vixi Galateria, a gelato shop in Miracle Mile, Coral Gables for bloggers to get together. They also had a guest speaker. So I decided to RSVP and see what I could learn by attending this event especially like I am new to the blogging world.
I am very glad I decided to go! I met great people that blog about everything (mostly fashion 🙂 ). It was great to hear with such enthusiasm their passion and why they write about it. It was great to meet Paola who is responsible for setting this get together. Nikki Novo was their guest speaker. Might I add from somebody who started blogging last month and only has 3 post up it was great to hear her knowledge in this industry. She even gives a class on her website about how to start a blog. You know I will be front and center, so to speak :). The major thing I took away from her speech was: Be yourself. Be authentic. Be you. There are no rules, you set the rules. Let your voice be heard. Thank-you Nikki!
Sadly my voice was still gone thanx to Sammy giving me his cold so I really couldn’t chit chat much with the group. Hoping to seeing them all again at the next month meeting.
Another thank-you to Paola for setting this up and to Nikki for the knowledge shared. To my fellow bloggers it was great meeting each and every one of you. Looking forward to reading your blogs and to seeing you again!
P.S. Where can I go to get some business card made? I wonder if I was the only one without Business cards for my blog, yikes! :).
My single mothers lets discuss for a moment. I wonder if I am the only one that gets mad when you look at your child and wonder how their sperm donor (I love to call the other parent this) can go about their day without thinking about their child. My sperm donor walked out on me the same night I told him I was pregnant, March 13, 2014. I was 8 weeks pregnant. I spent my entire pregnancy with NO assistance from him. My doctors appointments were either by myself or with my friends. I contacted him by the end of August to advise our son was going to be here ahead of schedule due to the fact I had gestational diabetics. His exact response to me was, “Don’t call me I don’t want to know s***!” Closer to my due date our mutual friend contacted him to advise his son was going to be here any day now. That hour long conversation did not change his mindset. Our son, Samuel came into this world, left the hospital 3 days later and still no word from him. When Sammy was a week old I along with my friends took MY son to meet his father. Not even that made him have a change of heart. I have struggled and still do at times with how can another individual go about their day carelessly with NO CARE in regards to their child. I have yet to receive a phone call asking about his son. Moments that I am looking at my sleeping son in my arms or his feet that are EXACTLY like his dad’s I get that moment that I want to go off on him. How is it that you can wake up and your first thought is not about your son? How is it that you can go into a store and not think, hmm does my child need diapers, wipes, clothes, formula, etc.? How did it feel celebrating Christmas and not being there for your child’s first Christmas? How did you spend Father’s Day when you can not even be called a Father? How can you live with yourself? How?!? I know I will never get these questions answered but I will always have them. Just like I’ll always have my angry moments against him but at the same time I give my son a smile and continue about our day. I make it work. On the days that I just want to relax and see tv 24/7 I am actually running after an 8 month old, feeding, bathing, and entertaining him. Luckily for me I am blessed with great friends and parents that help along the way. I just pray (and always have) that these people surrounding my son is enough and he never has to ask himself, “What was it about me that my dad did not want to be apart of my life?” xoxo
Hello world! At the moment I am enjoying myself at the Four Seasons Orlando. If you can its a must!! Just driving up into the property left me in ahh. I am in love!! The 3 and a half hour drive from Miami wasn’t so bad except for a few showers once we passed Port St. Lucie.
This is definitely a great start to my 29th birthday weekend. Due to the fact we arrived at 10:30pm we decided to have dinner here in The Lobby Bar. Their wings and fries were great. Sammy was eating those fries like a mad man, lol. I enjoyed a glass of Sparkling Rose which gave the night a great start. Tomorrow will be a day spent in the pool especially in their lazy river with my little Sammy and then off to Magic Kingdom. Even though my Sammy is 8 months old and he won’t remember it I will remember seeing all of his emotions on his face.
Here’s to a great relaxing weekend with my love ones. I hope you have a great relaxing weekend as well.
